About us

UNICÂMBIO – PAYMENT INSTITUTION, S.A. is the largest and oldest exchange agency in Portugal. The company started its activity in 1992, in the Algarve, Southern region of Portugal. Today, Unicâmbio has a network of 80 stores spread all over the country, being in the main international airports, cruise terminals, shopping malls, train stations and in several places with large affluence or high population density.
 
Unicâmbio is the main Western Union agent in Portugal for the international funds transfer activity. It has also established other strategic partnerships for the provision of complementary services with leading companies in their respective sectors. Such as Euronet, for the ATMs business, Global Blue, Planet, Innova and Travel, for the VAT refund activity (tax refund).
 
The company is known in the market for the quality of its services, its transparency and innovation. In 2014, Unicâmbio launched the first multicurrency prepaid card in Portugal. The «Cash4travel» can be charged in Euros, US Dollars, British Pounds, Swiss Francs and Brazilian Real.
 
Also in 2014, Unicâmbio began its internationalization with the creation of a company in Angola. With the affirmation of Morocco as one of the leading countries in Africa, its economic and social sustainable development and its good diplomatic and commercial relations with Portugal, UNICÂMBIO – PAYMENT INSTITUTION, SA has decided to consider its entry into this country. We believe that this is an excellent opportunity to strengthen our internationalization process, in particular on the African continent. We hope to provide all our experience and commitment by reproducing a success formula for our clients, our employees and our shareholders.
 
The project is in progress, after the allocation of a place for currency exchange and VAT refund activities, in the new Terminal 1 of Casablanca Airport. This is the starting point of an ambitious development project in Morocco, which also contributes to the expansion of the “Unicâmbio Group” in Africa.
